Provincial Championship - Novice Aussie Pairs

Editor: Theresa Kennedy

Jim Steckle and Maurice Cartier placed fourth in the province today on Woodstock greens in the Novice Aussie Pairs.  They won their three games on Saturday, and won the first game on Sunday (against District 11), then lost to District 14 (Mike Cyr of Oshawa and Pat Antaya of Lindsay, the eventual gold medalists).  That meant they played in the bronze medal game against District 10 (Eugene Dupuis and Jason Cristald of Etobicoke).  Unfortunately, that game was lost in the extra end and the last bowl by the opponent which knocked out Jim's bowl.  The Elmwood team of Mitch Young and Dan O'Connell (District 2) took home the silver.

The greens looked good and fast, but the weather was a touch cool, especially for spectators including Anita S, Lois C, Theresa K, Mary W, Carol R, and Robert R,  and Elizabeth B and Toni L.

Elizabeth Blunt and Toni Langshaw played well with 1 win and 2 losses.  Unfortunately, as we know, lawn bowling is usually a matter of winning or losing by inches.  The winning team for the women was from Port Dalhousie (District 6 - Jody Sacco and Debbie Inglis). Silver was won by Sharon Godlewski and Barb Hinch from District 3 and the bronze medal went to Annette Dhaen and Karen Wilbur from District 1 (Annette placed fourth this year in the Provincial Mixed Pairs with her husband Paul).

Congratulations to our bowlers and better luck to them next year.
