Provincial Mixed Pairs Championship were here in Burlington on August 9 and 10th!

The Burlington Lawn Bowling Club was excited to host the Mixed Pairs Provincial Championship on August 9 and 10th. With 64 players (32 teams) representing the best bowlers in Ontario there were excellent games to watch.

After two days of playing in heat and humidity, Kay Johns and Rick Wood of District 4 placed first, beating out our District team of Marion Brunton and her partner, Cary Lucier (Hagersville and Windsor).  The third place pair was Dave Llewellyn and Lynn Frost (District 10) and in fourth place was Paul and Annette Dhaen (District 1).  Congratulations to all.

Burlington had 6 players in total - Pat Binnie, Patrick Cote, Marion Brunton, Liz Blunt, Chuck Agro and Grant Love (Burlington and Beamsville).  Pat and Patrick met Liz and Chuck in the fourth game of the tournament on Saturday (1st elimination game) and were defeated in a close game.  Liz and Chuck played Marion and Cary in the second elimination game on Sunday and were also defeated.  That left Marion and Cary to carry through to the gold medal game and win silver.

We were thrilled to see so many of our Club members come out to help with scoring, serving, cleaning up and cheering on the bowlers. Thanks to our Mayor and fellow BLBC member, Marianne Meed Ward, for delivering the ceremonial first bowl. Despite the very warm conditions, it was a great weekend of top notch bowling, sportsmanship, and truly demonstrated what a great Club we are lucky to belong to.
