CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Women's Singles - Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026
Six bowlers, including one very new to short mat and lawn bowling, played to see who would be champ. We were all really nice to Marion B and she was the undisputed champion with 5 wins and no losses. Penny H was in second place with 4 wins and Toni L was in third place with 3 wins. Many thanks to the bowlers, spectators, and markers who made our lives simpler. Mary W was the umpire, and Fred A, Mary W and Theresa K shared drawmaster duties. We all shared marking duties and then relinquished that duty to fans arriving at lunch, after the hockey game. Evan B has the photos on the club Facebook page.
Men's Singles - Sunday, March 1, 2026
Six bowlers vied for the title of champ and played a round robin of 5-12 ends games. Brian D showed them the way, winning the first 3 in handy fashion before losing two close matches. That was enough to catapult him into first place. Phil T was in 2nd place with Laurie B in third place. The first 4 bowlers all had 3-2 records and, with the exception of Brian, were all within one point of each other. Congratulations to all - it was fun to watch good games. Mary W was the umpire with Theresa K and Fred A sharing drawmaster duties. Lovely to see fans out cheering. Evan B has the photos on our Facebook page.
Women's Pairs - Sunday, March 8, 2026
14 women and 7 teams played 3 and 4 games of 10 ends in a random draw. Truly spectacular play by all bowlers! In the end, Dorothy M and Josephine M prevailed over Midge L and Joan D in a tightly fought game with beautiful heads. In third place were Marion B and Toni L. Thanks to Mary W for umping and setting up the draw and bringing some delicious home-made peanut butter cookies. Fred was there to help marshal the bowlers, cheer and pick some up and leave his lunch bag, again. Thanks to the spectators, especially Miki and Hans. Marie's husband showed up to check it out - a possible new recruit? Fun times and good bowling. Evan took some wonderful photos - check out our FaceBook page.
Also Happy International Women's Day to all.
Men's Pairs - Sunday, March 22, 2026
10 men or 5 randomly-drawn pairs played 12-end Aussie games in a round robin format - made for a very long day. Tom G and Chris B won against Brian D and Peter A. Congratulations to all bowlers as all the games were very competitive. Thanks to Dennis W and his scones for all bowlers, and to Mary W, umpire extraordinaire, and her homemade cookies - snacks were fantastic. A few spectators showed up to watch. Photos are on our Facebook page, thanks to Evan. Thanks to Mary, Fred and Theresa.
Open Pairs - Sunday, March 29
20 players in three draws were randomly chosen with their teammates. Games started earlier and all games were timed for a maximum of 75 minutes. Everyone played three games with the two morning draws playing off against each other to determine an overall morning winner. The finals were held on Friday, April 10. Toni L and Dave B won against Peter A and Fred G. Congratulations to all bowlers and especially to Mary W and Fred A for organizing. Marie M was out to ensure bowlers were fed and hydrated as well as collecting the all important entry fees. There were a number of spectators for this final match as well as open bowling on Mats 1 and 3 - it felt like days of yore. Check out the photos by Evan on our Facebook page.
