Tuesday, July 13 - St George's Dave Ritchie Memorial event saw 14 teams play in the sweltering heat. It was determined that there would be 3 games of 8 ends - but due to heat, it was changed to 2 games of 8 ends.  First to third place all had 2 wins.  In first was Korey Kleinwachter & Karen Jackson (Simcoe) with 24 points.    In second place were Frank & Maureen Francella (Hagersville) with John McKechnie and Pat Kostecki from Glenridge. 2nd place to 6th place winners all had 18 points, so all sorts of various methods were employed to figure out where they fit in.  Fourth place was Wayne Martin & Pat Young (Heritage Greens); fifth place was Theresa Kennedy & Colin Waring (Burlington/St George) and sixth place was Lee Smith & Pat Beaumont (St George / Preston). Fun time and we all saw the beautiful gazebo that the club volunteers put together.

Sunday, July 11 - Alex Graham, a great promoter of lawn bowling for many years, and 104 years old, sponsored the Mixed Triples tournament at Brampton's newly laid artificial turf. Vince Donohue, Pat Binnie & Ismail Tahir were three-game winners and placed first.

Saturday, July 10 - Vince Donohue (Brampton) & Pat Binnie combined for third place as a two-game winner in Port Credit's Ghosh Family tournament.  It was a full house with 16 teams entered.  Reportedly, novices won that tournament.

Tuesday, July 7 - A Niagara team of Jim and Larry Wright came first at Roselawn’s OBA Pairs  in second place was the burly from team of Jim Steckle and Ernie Gersok  third place was a combined Burlington/ Niagara Falls Team of Pat Binnie and Marg LePere

Monday, July 6 - The McKie team of Derek, Murray Benniewies and Rebecca Coon merged to collect first prize at Hagersville Open Triples. In second place was the Burlington team of Dekker Ly, Patrick Cote and Pat Binnie who had a great 3rd game against McKie. (Note that Dekker had recently obtained a silver medal in U18 Singles.  Rebecca also has a silver medal in U18 Singles as well as in Women's Singles - youth bowlers looking good).  In 3rd place was another Burlington team skipped by Elizabeth Blunt and joined by Maurice Cartier and Toni Langshaw. Two other Burlington teams also competed - Marion, Marie & Chris, as well as Jim, Theresa & Dorothy. In addition, Brian Conroy played with his brother and sister-in-law - no sibling disagreements.

Wednesday, July 1 - Jim & Anita Steckle travelled to play in Elmira Lawn Bowling mixed pairs tournament.  Two 10-end games were played with the third game cancelled because of the heat.  Jim & Anita were declared the winners!  In second place were Dave DeFoe & Pat Beaumont.

Last game high was Dylan Jacobs &  Trevor Whyte (Woodstock).  Also present on three different teams were Theresa Kennedy, Elizabeth Blunt & Chuck Agro. It was a delight to bowl in Hagersville and hit Hewitt's Dairy afterwards.

Saturday, May 30 - Pat Binnie, Cathy Wheat (Roselawn) & Chuck Agro were in the money today at Beamsville, coming in second  to Larry's team from Niagara Falls.  Larry is usually in the mix and it really doesn't matter who he plays with.

Wednesday, May 27 - two Burlington teams played in Milton in the Women's Triples with a Novice and ended up with identical records of 1 win and 1 loss - but didn't make the money. Oakville and Milton teams were the winners in this event.  Totally unplanned, the team of Pat Binnie, Toni Langshaw & Penny Heneke were in light pink tops with white bottoms, while the team of Marion Brunton, Theresa Kennedy & Audry De Souza were in hot pink tops and white bottoms. We all looked good and had a fun day.

Sunday, May 24 - a Burlington team consisting of Jim Steckle, Ernie Gersok, Chris Brandl & Chuck Agro did a great job at Kitchener's Heritage Greens Lawn Bowling Club against outstanding opponents with 2 wins and 1 loss.  However, they didn't make the money.  Overall winner was Rick Lyons, John Bezear, Rob Galipeau & Erik Galipeau. In second place was Murray Bennewies, Jim Roth, Everett Zwiers & Derek McKie. Third place was Ryan Blair, Jake Masterson, Mike McNorton & Kody Olthof.

Wednesday, May 20 - two Burlington teams participated in Oakville's Women's Triples of 2-12 end games.  Midge Leonhardt, Dorothy McIntyre & Irene I'Anson won both games but were, unfortunately, out of the money.  The team of Pat Binnie, Teresa Bucknall (Beamsville)  & Penny Heneke won one game high winner aggregate. Congratulations to both teams.

Monday, May 18 -  Patrick Cote, Pat Binnie & John Smyth captured First place, winning 3 games in Woodstock, with 16 teams overall. It was a nice birthday present for John - first time in Woodstock and a significant year (you will have to ask him to find out how significant!). Congratulations to the threesome.

Saturday, May 16 - Pat Binnie, Theresa Kennedy & Brian Conroy were the only Burlington team at the mixed triples in Beamsville. They won the first game but the second games were rained out with 3 or 4 ends to play. We didn’t place in the money but a good tournament to start off the year. This was Brian’s first outside tournament - and think he may have caught the bug. 😆
