Thursday Evening Australian Pairs

Thursday Night Australian Pairs League

Welcome to the BLBC Australian Pairs (2‑4‑2) Thursday Night League.

This league provides competitive pairs play throughout the season, offering a balance between friendly jitneys and full tournament competition. It is designed to help you improve your game, connect with fellow members, and enjoy structured weekly play.

Runs Thursday evenings from May 21 to September 17.

Format

  • Each match consists of 14 ends of Australian Pairs.

  • If both teams agree, they may play 12 ends instead. In this case, each team is awarded ½ point for ends 13 and 14.

  • Scorecards must clearly indicate:

    • The green being used

    • Team numbers

    • All four players' names

  • Completed scorecards must be submitted to Maurice CartierSophie, or Dave Burrows.

  • For any questions, please speak with Dave.

Start Time

  • The Board of Directors requires that play not begin before 7:00 p.m., signaled by the ringing of the bell.

  • The scheduled start time is 7:15 p.m. to accommodate members arriving from work and to encourage all teams to begin together, supporting a more social atmosphere.

Player Commitment & Spares

  • Players are expected to commit to both their partner and the league.

  • If you are unable to play on a given evening, you must arrange your own spare.

  • Spares may be selected from the approved spare list or, in some cases, from other club members.

  • You may not select a player who is already part of another team in the league.

  • As a courtesy, please inform your opponents of the spare who will be playing.

Scoring

  • Win: 3 points

  • Tie: 2 points

  • Loss: 1 point

  • Default: 0 points

  • Ends: ½ point for each end won

  • After each set of seven round‑robin games, the top two teams in each division (except Division 1) move up, and the bottom two teams (except Division 4) move down.

League Administration

The organizer for this league is Dave Burrows.

Above all, compete, enjoy the game, and socialize with your fellow members.
